Brown Fused Alumina (BFA)
Brown Fused Alumina is a tough, high-performance material manufactured by fusing high-quality alumina and selected additives in electric arc furnaces at extremely high temperatures. The result is a dense, durable mineral with thermal shock resistance, and mechanical strength.
With its balance of toughness, wear resistance, and cost-efficiency, BFA is a versatile solution across abrasive and refractory applications. It offers high resistance to fracture under heavy loads, making it ideal for heavy-duty grinding, surface preparation, and blasting. In refractory systems, it performs reliably under repeated thermal cycling and moderate corrosive environments.

Offerings
The Electro Minerals Division of CUMI (CUMI Minerals) provides tailor-made solutions in the world of Fused & Sintered Minerals. With its well adapted & time tested techniques CUMI Minerals is able to provide correct solutions to various industries such as Abrasives, Refractories, Ceramics, Blasting, Metal Composites etc. Our products include various Aluminas (BFA, WFA, Alumina Zirconia, Sintered Ceramic), Carbides (Silicon Carbides), Zirconia (Monoclinic, Stabilised, Partially Stabilised) and High Quality Micro Grit Powders for all these Minerals.
Brown Fused Alumina is a tough, sharp abrasives which is highly suitable for grinding metals of high tensile strength. Its thermal properties make it an excellent material for use in the manufacture of refractory products. This material is also used in other applications like blasting and surface hardening.
A mixture of high quality zirconia and lime is fused at a temperature greater than 2400oC to create a partially stabilized zirconia product. The cooled mass is crushed, cleaned of magnetic impurities in high intensity magnetic separators and screened to desired size fractions. The grains are thermally treated to ensure uniformity of stabilization.
